Items that we would like to continue to develop more completely include:
- Homilies for the service: More 2-minute homilies (short reflections about each candle topic) are needed, each tying into one of the candle topics. [In order to keep the service moving, and especially to maintain the interest of children, we short homilies are scattered throughout the service. We hope to be able to catalog and offer a wide variety of homilies on this website from which congregations may choose and scatter between the essential elements of the holiday service. Keeping reflections to 2 minutes in length means that when 5 homilies are included in the service, one for each candle lighting, they add up to the same time that a full sermon would normally have taken.]
We're especially looking for reflections about how Unitarian Universalist history ties into a topic. - Food: Foods that could become traditional Luminescence dishes (and why).
- Children's activities: Activities both for the lead-up to the week of the service and things they can do at home related to the holiday.
- Children's stories: Additional short children's stories would be nice.
- Home celebrations: Unique and easy-to-do activities or text for celebrating the holiday at home. These could be either for reinforcing the service or, for those not having a service near them, then a service to be held in the home setting.
